Melissa’s Maternity Portraits

Melissa has been one of my best friends since all the way back in the 8th grade. We met when she transferred from another middle school in the district to mine. I had been the only female in the trumpet section for the prior two years and she saved me from my solitude amongst the boys when she joined me in the fall of 1999. I saw her standing solo before class started and looking a bit lost, so I grabbed her hand, dragged her to my group of friends across the room and that was that. Twenty-plus years of friendship later we are still close and celebrating life’s adventures together.

In 2019 Melissa married another former trumpet player that we went to high school with, a wonderful man, Joe, and this year they are being blessed with their first child, a daughter. We snapped some maternity portraits in a grassy field around sunset and my heart just melted watching a best friend cradle her adorable baby bump, being loved on by her doting husband and just watching her glow with baby love. It is wonderful to experience life’s joys ourselves, but to watch those we love most experience milestone moments and be a part of their happiness in some way is quite amazing too.
